Summary: In the phase 1 of this project, new microbial endophyte strains were isolated from native plants in natural areas near apple tree growing areas of Wenatchee, Entiat/Okanagan, Yakima, and Methow. These were screened for inhibition of Erwinia amylovora (Ea), Penicillium expansum (Pe), Botrytis cinerea (Bc), Neofabraea perennans (Np),and Phacidiopycnis washingtonensis (Pw). Genomic and biochemical analyses of the top-performing strains were conducted in this phase 2 of the project as well as a small field test for activity against apple fire blight.
