The Washington Tree Fruit Research Commission (WTFRC, the Commission) funds research projects for apples, cherries, stone fruit and technology. Research is funded based on per-ton assessments collected on tree fruit produced in the state. WTFRC also administers funding for pears via Federal Marketing Order #927.
Annual Research Reviews are held to review progress of projects from the prior year and to hear final reports. Following the annual reviews, advisory committee members meet to determine funding recommendations for new projects. Approximately 100 industry representatives serve on advisory committees (https://treefruitresearch.org/about-us/committees/) to help ensure the Commission identifies issues of importance to the industry and to evaluate the need and merit of proposed research and progress on funded projects. Project awards are granted to researchers across the nation and internationally.
