Summary: The objectives of this project were: 1. Evaluate availability, cost and efficacy of locally available mulch materials. 2. Generate mulch materials in the orchards. 3. Develop spray-on mulch technology for multi-year weed control. 4. Evaluate effect of mulches on soil moisture - cooperative trials with D. Neilsen. 5. Evaluate long-term effects of mulches and cover crops in established trials. 6. Evaluate plant species for in-row living mulches.
