Matt grew up in the Naches valley and graduated from Naches Valley High School in 1991. He spent many summers working for various farming families during cherry harvest. He graduated from the Oregon Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology in 1996.
His aerospace engineering career started with 5 years in Everett, WA with the Boeing Company as a process engineer with the Interiors division. After marrying his wife Sarah, they moved back to Eastern Washington and settled in Lower Naches. For the next 10 years he continued in aerospace as a design engineer at what is currently Triumph Group (formerly GE Aviation). He worked on various commercial programs such as the Airbus A380 and Boeing 787.
Growing tired of working for mega corporations, he was quite pleased that Allan Brothers was willing to give him a chance to start a second career in agriculture. For the past 9 years Matt has held various positions within the company including involvement in technology implementation, the storage program, food safety, and most recently labor utilization. He has gained knowledge in the challenges that face the business and the industry.
When he is not at work, or in the field, he is the most at home enjoying the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Whether hunting deer or elk with his family or getting schooled by his wife bass fishing, being outside is the place to be. However, it is important to give back to a local community, and now an industry community, that has always been supportive. Having the chance to continue the good work that the WTFRC has accomplished is inspiring and invigorating.
