Sam Godwin has been appointed by the Washington State Department of Agriculture to serve as pear representative on the WTFRC board of Commissioners. Sam is the chair of the Commission, whose role it is to understand the history of the Commission and to plan for its future which is critical to its successful operation.
Sam was raised on a fruit farm in the Tonasket, WA area. After years of hard work and a little luck his parents were able to purchase the orchard and continue farming. The farm is still in his family business today.
Sam received a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering at WSU, and an MBA from Seattle University. Upon graduating from WSU Sam worked for the Boeing Company for 15 years. In 2002, he returned to the Tonasket area to re-engage with his passion for farming on the family’s small farm. Once back on the farm Sam began working within the industry trying to learn as much as possible. Work experience includes Gold Digger Apples in Oroville and that job lead to his current duties as CIO for Chelan Fresh Marketing.
Sam’s wife, Gwynne has been by his side longer than he cares to remember helping with the farm and life. They have three children: Courtney, Etta & Luke. Sam enjoys traveling and exploring new areas. He has also been known to sneak away and do a little fishing from time to time. Most of his family’s quality time is spent together in the dirt on their farm discussing new ideas.
