Research Assistant Intern

Oscar started with the Commission in the spring of 2025. He will be assisting with lab and field activities; harvest, bloom counts, fruit monitoring, lab tests, internal disorders and more.

Oscar grew up in Chihuahua, Mexico. He is a fourth generation apple farmer in the region of Tres Lagunas and Guerrero in Chihuahua. Oscar is currently working toward is AA in Horticulture and Wenatchee Valley College.

Oscar has been in apple orchards for as long as he can remember. It has always been a dream of his to continue with the family business, revolutionizing the fruit industry in Mexico. When he had the opportunity, he decided to enroll at WVC’s Agriculture program. Oscar’s main objective was to acquire as much knowledge as possible about the fruit industry’s common practices and to earn work experience in the field and warehouse. He has worked in QC packing, shipping and now in a research lab. Oscar’s long-term goal is to go back home and establish modern sustainable apple orchards.

Oscar comes from a family of six; his parents, two sisters and a little brother. Since moving to Wenatchee, Oscar has loved living close to a ski resort to be able to snowboard whenever he has time. He also enjoys traveling and exploring new places, bike rides and playing the guitar.
