The Washington Tree Fruit Research Commission (WTFRC) is implementing a new online system for all research proposal and reporting submissions. Beginning this year (2025), all pre-proposals, full proposals, continuing reports, final reports, and PowerPoint presentations will be submitted exclusively through the new Salesforce Grantmaking Portal.

This system is designed to streamline the submission process, improve tracking, and ensure consistency across all research projects.

To access the portal, you will be required to:

– Create a user account or change your password through the email you received from Salesforce when WTFRC staff enable your account. Search your inbox for an email from submit@treefruitresarch.com titled “Welcome to the WTFRC Grants Portal.” If you did not receive this email, you are not already in our system and will need to create a new account.

– Carefully follow the provided instructions for each type of submission and ensure you are using the most up to date templates (excludes pre-proposals, this is a prebuilt template through the platform)

– Ensure that all materials are uploaded through the portal by the stated deadlines

Follow this link to access the WTFRC Grants Portal: https://treefruitresearch.my.site.com/

Please disregard any previous templates. Preproposals submitted in any previous forms or submission methods will not be accepted.

Priorities determined by the WTFRC Committees are posted annually at: https://treefruitresearch.org/requests-for-proposals/.

Once logged into your WTFRC Grantee Portal home page, choose the “View Grant Opportunities” button in the middle of your screen, or access funding opportunities by choosing “Funding Opportunities”  from the ribbon on top of your screen.

If there is an active funding opportunity, you will see them listed and the dates they open and close. Click the hyperlink into your desired opportunity. There, you will see a description of the Request for Proposal and more information on due dates for the funding cycle.

In the upper right hand corner, click the button that says “Begin Pre-Proposal.” This will then guide you through the process of submitting your preproposal.

Project Title
The project title is limited to 70 characters including spaces. Note: If funded, the project title must stay the same throughout the life of the project.

Principal Investigator
We understand that on occasion, a co-pi might submit a pre-proposal on behalf of the Principal Investigator. You will indicate whether you are the PI or submitting on behalf of another and enter their information to link the proposal to them as the lead investigator.

Proposed Project Duration and PI/Co-PI
Select 1, 2 or 3 from upper right-hand corner of Preproposal form. Maximum length is 3 years. For each PI/Co-PI, include all requested information. Each is expected to remain an actively engaged contributor throughout the project, most clearly reflected via an associated budget.

Cooperators
List cooperators involved in the project. A cooperator is a company that is donating products or services or an individual serving in an advisory capacity.

Budget
List the total amount requested for each year of the project. If your preproposal is approved for a full proposal submission, a more detailed budget will be required.

Budget Requests for Funding Not Allowed
The WTFRC does not pay for overhead charges, tuition for graduate students, or publication costs. It also does not fund travel to professional society meetings or research reviews.

Justification and Objectives
Up to 3,000 characters (including spaces) is allotted for justification and objectives. You may utilize the allotment any way you wish between the two areas. Justification: Provide a concise summary how this research project will benefit the growers of Washington State. Objectives: Using numbering (1, 2, 3….) to identify the specific research proposal objectives.

Submitting Your Pre-Proposal
Submit preproposals electronically via the grants portal by first ensuring all information requested is filled out and then choose “Save and Continue.”  At this point your preproposal will be saved as a draft and you can exit your screen to revisit at another time or choose “Submit Pre-Proposal” to complete your submission. You will receive a confirmation email that your submission was successful and you will also be able to see your status by choosing “Proposals & Pre-Proposals” along the top ribbon of your portal view.
