Summary: Our overall goal is to integrate genomics with Washington tree fruit breeding programs, to enhance breeding scope and efficiency. The major objective of the project was to lay the foundation for the larger program by developing the capability and technical infrastructure for applying available genomics information and tools to the Washington apple breeding program (WABP). This will allow, in future years, for more genetically-informed and targeted selection of parents and an efficient means of predicting the genetic value of thousands of seedlings in a short time. Such an enhanced breeding program will also be able to quickly capitalize on future genomic discoveries in apple and other fruit crops
