Summary: The objectives of this project were: • Describe patterns of seasonal root growth and mortality in apple trees on M9 rootstock in the Pacific Northwest • Contrast root and shoot physiological responses for trees exposed to partial irrigation with those of well-watered controls, with and without mulch • Contrast root and shoot physiological responses for trees exposed to deficit irrigation, partial root zone drying and well-watered controls. • Contrast yields and fruit quality of trees exposed to deficit irrigation, partial root zone drying and well-watered controls.
