Washington apple varieties for management of type 2 Diabetes

Summary: The objectives of this project were: 1) To evaluate the health benefits of major fresh varieties of apples grown in Washington State for combating early stages of Type 2 diabetes and to better advance a fruit and vegetable rich healthy diet based on this information (Year 1). 2) To evaluate the health benefits of post-harvest stored apples under CA and 1-MCP conditions of important varieties grown in Washington State to determine if the potential evaluated under Objective 1 for combating early stages of Type 2 diabetes is maintained during storage (Year 2).
